Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Posted: November 9, 2008Shichida classes does not only teaches academic and brain simulation games and activities, it also teaches the young kids like 5-6 years old on social responsibilities like helping to sustain the earth through reduce waste, reusing the materials and recycling.
In today’s worksheet, parents and child is to complete a written topic on the 3 Rs ( Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). My daughter borrowed a book (off the recommended bookshelve from the public library). I doubt she really can read all the words there but the pictures does intrigue her to take it off the shelve. It is a Geography based book titled: Planning for Sustainable Future by Helen Belmont. In one of the topics mentioned, the 3 Rs.( Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) I read those few pages to her and get her to copy a few of the pointers into her Shichida worksheet.
Just last weekend at Carrefour Supermarket, we were at the cashier paying for our groceries.I told the packer (whom is seen during only peak hours of the weekend) to pack the groceries into my recycled bags. He looked like one of those supervisor at the stores (with 2 walkie talkie at his waist). He saw my daughter and turned around and asked her. Do you know why your mummy is using this bags instead of the plastic bags from the supermarket. My daughter shook her head while all the times I was waiting for her to say ” Recycle”. He explained patiently that it helps to reduce waste in the environment and that plastic bags are difficult to be decomposed. In long run, it will cause harm to the environment. My daughter nodded her head in understanding while I stand there wondering why have she known this. She has previously reminded me to save the trees and use less papers for her homework !
