Don’t teach the Law to your children

Just few weeks ago, our senior pastor preached on Law of  10 commandments and the family values. Something strike me very much during that sermon. It was a fresh revelation to me and my husband.

Teaching the 10 commandments by memory and reciting will not made you a godly parent or your child a christ -like child. The child just does not able to associate with the Law with their life. The law is a bondage to them but Christ is the source of their asocciation and sense of identity.

One of the experience my senior pastor had as a father was when his daughter was being laughed at, called names, in the school. His little girl was very upset and sad. If he had used the 10 commandments to teach her strictly, she would have surpressed her feelings and strive to become a good girl by trying to obey the commandments. Instead, he asked her how she felt and he stopped short of making comments before his girl would pour out how she felt. “Feelings are alright, they have right to feel but they should not act on how they feel.”- quote by the senior pastor.  In order to bring her back to the biblical teaching, my senior pastor reminded his daughter that she is always, always Jesus’ girl. As Jesus’ girl, she will not act and do things to retailate on her classmates or do silly things to hurt herself.  Reminding the child that she/he is Jesus’ girl/ boy is to give them a sense of identity in Christ and to remind them who they are.

By teaching your children right, the bible states in Deutronomy 11 : 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be  many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

What a wonder revelation we have on that day when we knew this.
