” I want to play ” Kids need playtime

Here’s a question submitted by a parent: “How do you feel about homework given during primary school years ?Do you think it  is good idea and if so, how much is best? ”

I believe homework for young children can be counterproductive if it is not handled carefully. Little children are asked to sit for five hours or more each day doing formal class work. They return home from school to be placed at a desk and told to do more assignments.

For an active, fun-loving youngster, that is asking too much. Learning, fro them, becomes a bore instead of  the exciting panorama that it ought to be. Excessive homework during the early yers also has the potential of interfering with family life.

In our home, we wanted our kids to participate in other activities and have some familt time and still be able to kick back and waster an hour or tiwo. They needed to play with their friends; yet by the time of their homework was done, it would have become dark and they would have to eat dinner and then take their baths. After that, they would have to go to bed- something just did not feel right about that pace.

Homework has a place in a child’s education, but I think the time spent on it in the early years should be restricted.
