Thanksgiving Day
Posted: November 22, 2007Thanksgiving day is a special day for most American. For Asian and European, today is not a special day for us. However, the history behind Thanksgiving seems to have been diluted throughout the years. I do not know much of the history related to Thanksgiving and having a feast with family. I did ask some of my American colleagues on what Thanksgiving signifies but most of the younger generation could not giving me more details than what they do for thanksgiving. Others just stated what they are thankful for.
Personally, I felt that each day should be a Thanksgiving day. We need to thank God for the life given to us, blessing us in everyway and path that we take, even simple things like protecting us from harm on the road or when we cross the street; preventing natural disaster falling upon us (this year especially so when weather is going haywired, some months just flooded and some months are too hot !). We should also be thankful for our parents and also take this day to reconcile any differences with sibilings or parents. Wasn’t this day where most of the family members will go back to their family to have celebration ?
We have so many things to be thankful for if we were to be more sensitive to what has been given, though human natural tends to look at the negative points and complaint about it before appreciating the smaller and finer things in life.
I received a thanksgiving email from my mentor in the States. Though we are not Americans and do not live in States. It was extremely nice to recieve that email. It is nice to be remember as part of a ” family ” or ” clan”. That reminds me that I will be dropping a few emails to my friends in the states too on this thanksgiving day. I guess to sent them a message of appreciation is even more meaningful on this Thanksgiving day.
