What’s wrong with Children’s birthday celebrated with Magicians in the school ?
Posted: November 13, 2008My daughter’s birthday is round the corner .(November)
I have been thinking how and what to provide her for her school birthday celebration. Unlike most of the parents in the kindergarten, I decided not to have any magic shows nor unhealthy McDonald’s burgers and fries brought into the school. Not that I am a scrouge but I just do not find that it is a necessary to lavish such luxury party for a child’s birthday especially bringing in event companies with magician and ballon sculptoring to school nor family celebrations every year.
Instead, I informed the teacher that I wanted a simple birthday party. I set the school’s teachers’ expectation and spent the rest of the weeks setting my daughter’s expectations. My explanation are simple:
1. Birthday celebration is for the celebration of the birthday boy and girl. It is not about making your friends to be happy only nor about how many friends are invited to the party. Neither it is about the scale of the party with magician or held in some private clubs houses.
2. Birthday is best celebrated with your family members. It is a must in ou family traditions, even among all her cousins.
3. Birthday celebration needs not to be spending lots of money. It is to remind the birthday girl/ boy that they have grown a year older.
4. Money saved on those school parties can be used for more good investment. I showed her her Mighty Saver Children Bank Book and brought her to deposit her piggy bank of all coins to the OCBC bank. The saving from the so intend expected birthday celebration will be deposited into her bank account. Guess that money will roll and invested with expotential returns when she is ready to use it in later years.
Instead, we will have something special and healthy and yet creative
1. No cream or cow’s milk cake because of the recent milk scared in school. This also saved me the trouble of trying to bring in certification to convince all parents that the cake is safe for consumption. A jelly based cake will be the best to consider.
2. Home-make Honey Lemon Juice with fruits ( rambutan and longan). Trash out all the soft drinks and frizzy drinks then
3. Popiah and Kuay Patties. Healthy and Halal based vegetarian food for the children. Also can get the children to try their hands on wrapping the popiahs themselves.
4. In case, they are meat eaters only, I will also bring in healthy cooked sushi of eggs, prawns and cucumbers.
5. Fruit is a must. Still trying to figure out if I can get some warm chocolate dips for the kids to dip their fruits into as snack. This, I need to consult the school as the helpers and teachers are cleaning this up. It may not be a good idea afterall.
6. Simple Games: Passing the parcel with music. Musical Chair. Chinese charade ( of animal names ) will be very entertaining. Back to the basic and traditional. My daughter has good fun with her cousins when playing these games !
Well anyway, I believe this will be a good enjoyable birthday and a memorable one.
